Respecting our Leaders
Note: this blog post was scheduled to be posted automatically at this time, as I am out of town and away from computers until September. This means that I won't be able to reply to any comments at this time. Sorry!
If there's one thing that annoys me about many Republicans and right-wing folks, it's that they are so disrespectful to our current president (Obama).
"Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are unreasonable."
1 Peter 2:18 NASB
Although this verse is speaking to servants, we can extract from it that we are to respect those above us. When we make jokes or speak about how dumb Obama is, are we respecting him? Or are we putting him down?
Often, there is confusion about respect. Does it mean that we have to agree with everything Obama does? Not at all! It means that we should not be slanderers. While I'm on this subject, do you know that the word slander, in Hebrew, is the same word that is used for "devil"? When we slander anyone, we are in fact being devils.
Now, about Obama being "dumb". I think that if we really thought about what we say, we would all agree that Obama is intelligent to the point of being genius. Anyone who become president must be. It's just that Obama and I disagree about what the perfect US would be like and how to get there.
His idea is a socialist government, where the future of America can be moulded by experts, and where everything runs perfectly because it is all controlled by a select group of people.
My idea is an America where everybody thinks for themselves and comes to their own conclusions. Then, the majority, not the minority, decides where this country will go based off of their conclusions.
However, the real difference is in worldviews. He believes that humans are all "cosmic dust", and I believe that we were all created individually with value and goals for our life.

*Caleb!* ;) You didn't capitalize "Hebrew" and one of the "Obama"s, so I had to go in and fix that for you... :P Overall though, great post!
ReplyDeleteI think this post came out right as I viewed the blog. One minute it was unpublished, and the next...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, President Kar- er, Obama is certainly not dumb - quite the contrary, he can be rather crafty - you're quite right. The disrespect may be uncalled for, but by considering humans are dust in the wind, doesn't that mean he disrespects everyone?
Republicans that know what they are talking about make sure to complain (and possibly offer alternatives) when it comes to his policies, but not his character.
